So after a series of unfortunate events I am finally back to work. First of all my flash drive broke trapping all of my work in it. Then my oldest daughter tripped over my laptop cord and broke my screen. It has been a long month. So I got lucky and found copies of my work in my email (I email my work to myself and then read it on my tablet so I can edit it more easily). When I found the email I did a little dance. Now I don't have to wait for the geek squad to do data recover on my flash drive. I had to send my laptop in to have the screen repaired. That took about two weeks. Needless to say I have set myself up an office area away from the heavy traffic areas that my children travel in.
I am about a quarter of the way though my next book. Only Me. I should be finished by March. Yea. I am really enjoying writing it and I find myself smiling or just plain laughing out loud at my characters. Their dynamic together is intriguing. I have already decided who I like and who I don't and I'll just tell you know when you meet them you will instantly hate them as much as I do. In this next book you'll meet some new character as well as get to see what some of my old characters are up to. I can wait to finish so I can see how it will end. Because if you've read my blog before you know I don't tell them what to do they tell me what the want and I just write it down for them. So I will leave you with a little teaser.
TEASER TEASER TEASER
The next two weeks went by without another problem. The night of the gala rolled around so quickly it took her by surprise. Her father hadn’t spoken to her since the day she had confronted him and Miss Sanders. She wasn’t sure if that was a good thing or a bad thing. She stood in her suite dressed for the gala. The red backless strapless satin gown she had ordered arrived earlier that week. She put her red feathered mask on and headed downstairs. Most of the guess that had previous declined their invitation had changed their minds and decided to attend.
By the time she arrived in the grand ballroom the party was already in full swing. Couples were whirling around the dance floor. Masks everywhere she turned. Food and Champagne appeared everywhere carried on silver trays. Sparkling white lights shimmered throughout the room. Flowers in various shades of white, red and green were all over filling the air with their fragrant aroma. The only downside to this little soirée was that she only knew a few people in attendance.
She spied Delaney and her Husband. She'd recognize Delaney’s protruding belly anywhere. Checking the time on the large clock in the room she saw that she had about a half hour before she was to give her speech. She made her way across the room towards her friend. She was halfway there when someone caught her by her hand
“May I have this dance?” The impossibly tall stranger in a black and gold mask and classic tuxedo asked taking her hand and pulling her into his arms before she had assented to his request. Before she knew what was happening she was twirling across the floor into the group of dancing couples. “A woman as beautiful as you shouldn’t be alone on a night like this.” He said softly in her ear.
“What makes you think I’m alone?” she asked flustered.
“I watched you come in.”
“That doesn’t mean I’m alone. My date could just be out in the hall.”
“Then he is a fool.” He said as the corner of his mouth pulled up into a half smile. “Only a fool would let you leave it side for even a second.”
“That’s one of the best lines I’ve heard in a long time.”
“It’s no line, it’s the truth. If it was me and I had the opportunity to call you mine for even one night, I would be your shadow.” His dark eyes stared down at her through his mask.
Sienna felt her face flood with color. It took all of her effort to break the connection of their eyes. Her body warmed over and goose bumps rose on her arms. She had the sudden urge to fan herself. She couldn’t speak so she allowed herself to be whirled around the floor instead. “So was I wrong, or is the really a fool out in the hall somewhere?” He asked.
“No there’s no one in the hall, I did come alone.”
“Well then I guess I shall become your shadow, because I am no fool.” He smiled a brilliant white smile.
“Who are you?” She couldn’t help asking.
“I believe that would ruin the mystique of a masquerade ball if I told you that. So for now you can call me Shadow.” He said impishly. As they spun past the clock he whispered in her ear. “I believe you have a speech to deliver.”
He stopped spinning and led her to the stage where the band played. Somehow he knew who she was though she had not a clue how, or who he was. He helped her onto the stage and mouthed I’ll be right here, before releasing her hand. The band stopped playing as she took the microphone in her hands.
“Welcome everyone.” She spoke clearly into the microphone. “To the grand opening of Sinclair Grand of Charlotte. I hope that you are all having an amazing and magical evening.” She looked out over the crowd, before her eyes came to rest on her ‘shadow’. “Looking around me, I see the fruit of nearly fifty years of dreaming. Dreaming that grew into a clear vision that turn into a reality. My grandfather opened the first Sinclair Grand forty-seven years ago and I have watched it grow and shape into something that my family can be proud of. I have never been more proud to call myself a Sinclair than I am at this moment. To all of my friends, family and staff, thank you for your support. To my guest, may the mystique of this evening remain with you. Goodnight and enjoy the rest of your evening.” Everyone broke out into applause.
He was by her side before she had even replaced the microphone back in its stand. Taking her hand he spun her back onto the dance floor. “That was the longest five minutes ever.” He said pressing his hand the small of her bare back.
“So you’re not going to tell me who you are?”
“Does it matter?”
